Minimalism A to Z: W Is for Wealth Isn’t about Money

Wealth isn't about money

“Wealth is the progressive realization of worthy goals, the ability to love and have compassion, meaningful and caring relationships.”

– Deepak Chopra

Sure, to feel happy, most of us need enough money to live in reasonable comfort, but beyond that, studies show money doesn’t add to our happiness. Real wealth is found in gratitude, strong relationships, good health, helping others, hobbies, and other meaningful pursuits.

Below are some quotes about the true nature of wealth.

“A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.”

– Henry David Thoreau

“The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.”

– Charles Kuralt

“He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature.”

– Socrates

“Our lives are the only meaningful expression of what we believe and in Whom we believe. And the only real wealth, for any of us, lies in our faith.”

– Gordon B. Hinckley

“I have no riches but my thoughts. Yet these are wealth enough for me.”

– Sara Teasdale

“Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.”

– Jim Rohn

“Happiness resides not in possessions, and not in gold, happiness dwells in the soul.”

– Democritus

“Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has, the more one wants.”

– Benjamin Franklin

“The greatest wealth is to live content with little.”

– Plato

“He who loses money, loses much; He who loses a friend, loses much more; He who loses faith, loses all.”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

“Measure your wealth by what you’d have left if you lost all your money.”

– H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

“Contentment is the only real wealth.”

– Alfred Nobel

“It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it’s good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven’t lost the things that money can’t buy.”

– George Lorimer

“The glow of one warm thought is to me worth more than money.”

– Thomas Jefferson

“Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.”

– Henry David Thoreau

“Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make it wag its tail.”¹

– Richard Friedman
